Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Karen Miller
I grew up in Southern California but moved to the Bay Area to go to college. I received an industrial engineering degree from Stanford University. After graduating, I spent the next five years working for a thriving computer company called Sun Microsystems (think Java). While I enjoyed my years as a financial analyst and strategic planner, I found I had a growing interest in education. So I packed up and moved to Illinois to get my masters degree in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University. Not able to take the weather, I found my way back to California. I taught fifth grade in Palo Alto for 6 years and loved it!
My own children have been in the Cupertino school system since kindergarten. I had the privilege of subbing at the elementary and middle school levels in Cupertino for four years. I've really enjoyed teaching Geometry at Lawson.
My husband and I have two children, one in middle school and one in high school. They are both athletes and I love watching their sporting events. Beyond that, we enjoy reading, playing games, going to the beach, and traveling to see family.
I’m looking forward to a successful and fun year. I have high expectations for my students. I know we will work hard and accomplish much! I am committed to helping learners gain mastery of important concepts, think outside the box to solve problems, and work together to encourage and challenge one another.
