Ask Montclaire students about the regular class trips to our library and watch their eyes light up. For many years now, our librarian Mrs. Proffitt has been igniting students’ passion for reading. Our librarian supports classroom instruction by providing library services and materials aligned with curriculum units to our students and teachers. She also fosters a love of leisure reading for many students at recess and lunch. Each class visits the library weekly. Our librarian introduces new books by reading aloud to each class, and spends time helping students find appropriate, interesting books. Our librarian serves as an important resource when students are investigating topics for schoolwork, helping them learn how to use library materials and media to research different topics. In addition to the weekly 30 minute visits each class makes, the library is also open during lunch recess for students in 3rd - 5th grades on M, W, F.
Funding for the Montclaire Librarian comes from Montclaire Parent Teacher Organization (MPTO). MPTO and our School Site Council support our library annually with funds for continued investment in appropriate literature, non-fiction titles and other resources to expand our library offerings.
