Virtual Meeting Procedures
The Board of Education welcomes all members of the Cupertino Union School District community to attend and participate in board meetings. All regular meetings of the Board of Education are open to the public.
Agendas are made available to the public 72 hours in advance of each regular meeting and 24 hours before a special meeting. Agendas are posted at the District Office, all school sites (during the school year), and on the District website. Copies of the agenda are also available at the board meeting.
Members of the public may request in writing a copy of the agenda be sent to them prior to each board meeting. Please contact the Office of the Superintendent at (408) 252-3000, Extension 61-200, to request a copy of each agenda be sent to you. An annual fee will be charged to cover expenses.
Background materials related to agenda items are provided to Board Members for study and review prior to a meeting.
Addressing the Board
Please be aware that the board meeting is a business meeting of the Board of Education in a public setting and not a forum for public debate.
The Board of Education listens to and strongly values the input from the public. You may provide comments relevant to agenda items at the time those items are under consideration. A link to the comment card will be provided on our website 15 minutes before the board meeting begins. At the beginning of the meeting, the Board President will also explain how members of the public may provide comments via the Zoom interface.
When it is your turn to comment, you will be called on by the Board President. You must be present to read your comments. If you are not able to be present when called to speak, the Board will receive your comments post-meeting. You may also email the Board of Education at firstname.lastname@example.org. Comments will be limited to a total of 30 minutes for all speakers, with a limit of three (3) minutes per person, unless there are too many people requesting to make a public comment to allow all to be heard within 30 minutes, in which case the Board President may limit comments to less than 3 minutes per person.
Please be aware that the provisions of the Brown Act prohibit the Board from acting on or discussing matters not on the agenda at this meeting, therefore, Board Members will not respond directly to the speakers or otherwise address speakers’ comments. Requests from the public for the Board to take up a particular matter at a future Board Meeting will be referred to staff and the Board President for consideration.
Meeting minutes are kept as the official record of all regular and special meetings. Minutes are available online and for review at the District Office. Please note: Board meeting minutes are posted after they are signed and approved by the Board at the next regular meeting.
In accordance with Education Code section 35146 and Government Code section 54957, the Board may recess to Closed Session to discuss personnel matters, litigation, expulsions, employee negotiations, property negotiations, liability claims, and other related matters. Actions taken in Closed Session are reported out during the public meeting by the Board President as required by law.
Special Meetings and Study Sessions
In addition to the regularly scheduled board meetings, the Board of Education may hold special meetings as needed. Advance notice for special meetings must be posted at least 24 hours in advance.
