Superintendent Mrs. Stacy Yao

Stacy Yao, Superintendent

Mrs. Yao has been an educator and administrator for over three decades. She is a passionate leader in all facets of a child's education - intellectual, emotional, social, mental, and physical - and a firm believer in the partnership and collaboration amongst school, family and community to preparing students for success. Prior to joining the District, Mrs. Yao worked at Merced Union High School District as a Teacher, Vice Principal of Athletics and Activities, Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. Mrs. Yao joined CUSD in 2015 in the Human Resources Department where she served as a Director and later Associate Superintendent. From March-September 2017, Mrs. Yao took on the responsibilities of Interim Co-Superintendent in addition to her HR Associate Superintendent role. In 2020, in recognition of Mrs. Yao's visionary leadership and strong instructional, business and personnel expertise, the CUSD Board of Education appointed Mrs. Yao as the District's Interim Superintendent, and a year later in 2021, as the District's Superintendent.

Recognizing and respecting the unique cultures and offerings at each District school, Mrs. Yao actively engages all educational partners to promote a shared focus to support students and help them thrive. In concert with the Board, staff and community, Mrs. Yao establishes clear goals and objectives for the long-range planning for the District. Under her effective leadership, the District undertook the arduous task of putting in place a viable long-term fiscal plan that sustains the District's financial health to support students and staff, and to provide resources in face of declining enrollment.

The Cupertino Union School District is proud of its many accomplishments and excels because our parents, teachers, staff, and community do a remarkable job of supporting our students and setting high expectations. We must continue this strong collaboration, be willing to work together, and hold one another accountable for the success of our students.

Mrs. Yao is a highly visible educational leader. She is a member of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce and is active in many educational and community events throughout the District and county. In 2018, Mrs. Yao was named Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators. As a life-long educator and learner, Mrs. Yao is committed to engaging and challenging every student in every classroom every day.

Mrs. Yao is married to William Yao, a security engineer, and has one son. They reside in Cupertino and enjoy outdoor activities and have a passion for Formula 1 racing.
