English Language Arts
The aim of Cupertino Union School District is to develop lifelong readers, writers and thinkers. Classroom communities develop student agency, joy and competence. Our learners exercise both choice and voice as they eagerly discover new favorite titles that matter to them, explore topics that spark their curiosity, and express ideas and opinions as they build their view of the world.
Our comprehensive English Language Arts (ELA) program is aligned with the California Common Core State Standards and centered on the five pillars of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The development of early literacy skills is essential, as is ongoing assessment to personalize instruction and monitor progress.
Tiered levels of support, including intervention programs, are in place to ensure that students reach their full potential.
