Frequently Asked Questions
Is ELO-P an English Language Acquisition Program?
-
No, it is not specifically designed as an English Language Development (ELD) program with certified teachers. Research indicates positive language development outcomes when non-English-speaking peers interact with their English-speaking peers. ELD is taught during the school day by a credentialed teacher at your child’s school. Please ask your child’s teacher if you have questions about ELD instruction or progress.
My child is an English Language Learner, why are they not in the program?
-
As an English Language Learner, eligibility for the program is based on having ELPAC scores before the first Wednesday of October (10/4/2024) of the school year. Exceptions to enroll students after this date are at the discretion of the Local Education Agency.
Can students walk home after ELO-P ends?
-
Parents/Guardians must provide written permission for students in grades 4 and 5 to walk home. TK/K-3 students are not allowed to walk home.
How will parents receive communication from the district?
-
CUSD partners will email parents/guardians the daily schedule and activities throughout the program.
Can siblings who are not eligible enroll in ELO-P?
-
No, only students who meet the eligibility criteria can be enrolled.
Is daily attendance mandatory?
-
While the law specifies offer and access requirements for the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P), actual student attendance is based on the families' discretion. Daily attendance is not mandatory but encouraged to benefit from the program's offerings.
