2026-2027 Open Enrollment

Priority Open Enrollment Window for Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade
for alternative schools/programs
February 2, 2026, through February 13, 2026

The time to apply for an alternative school or program is called the Priority Open Enrollment Window. This special sign-up time is only for the following schools or programs: Cupertino Language Immersion Program (CLIP) (K-5 at Muir and 6-8 at Miller), Faria (K-5), Christa McAuliffe School (TK-8), and Murdock-Portal (K-5).

If your child will be a Transitional Kindergarten through 8th-grade student who is either new to CUSD or moving up to the next school level, they may apply to only one of these alternative schools or programs. To be considered for the lottery, parents must go to a required tour or meeting (not required for parents who already have a child attending the alternative school/program). Parents will need to check each alternative school's website to find out how to sign up for one of those mandatory meetings.

STEP 1: Register through Student Assignment to obtain perm ID # (students currently attending CUSD DO NOT need to complete this step)

STEP 2: Attend a parent information meeting/tour - dates/times will be posted on the school's/program's website by January 5, 2026

STEP 3: Apply for the alternative school/program via the Open Enrollment link - link will be posted on the website at 8:00 am on February 2, 2026

The 2026-2027 Open Enrollment lottery is refreshed annually and will create a new waitlist for each grade at each of these alternative schools and programs.

Priority Open Enrollment Window for Kindergarten through 8th grade
for attendance area schools
March 16, 2026, through March 27, 2026

Open Enrollment is your chance to apply for a school that is different from the one your address is assigned to. Every address in the district belongs to one main school (your "attendance area school"). If you want your child, from Kindergarten through 8th grade, to attend a different CUSD attendance area school, you apply during this window, which happens in March 2026.

The important thing to remember is that this process is only for parents who want their child to go to a different attendance area school. It is not a backup plan for students who are overflowed to another attendance area school because their home attendance area school is too full—that will be assigned differently. Schools and grade levels that are available to apply for will be posted the Friday prior to the window opening on the District website. You must complete an electronic application form on the District website during the official March window to choose another school.

STEP 1: Register through Student Assignment to obtain perm ID # (students currently attending CUSD DO NOT need to complete this step)

STEP 2: Apply for the attendance area school via the Open Enrollment link - link will be posted on the website at 8:00 am on March 16, 2026
