Mrs. Barboza

Mrs. Barboza

Wow - this is my 20th year in the Galapagos Village with Mrs. V! Murdock-Portal is a magical place to work, with wonderful staff, parents, and, of course, your children. It's an extra special treat to be in the position of a K/1 teacher, introducing the little ones to life as a Penguin. As much as I love to teach reading, writing, math, etc...I am equally passionate about social-emotional development and helping children to grow their hearts as well as their minds.

I grew up in the Bay Area with my parents and three sisters. We all still live here, and we enjoy getting together on weekends with all of the aunts/uncles, cousins, and grandparents....we are a close family! I earned my Bachelor's degree at UC Santa Barbara and my teaching credential at San Jose State. My husband, Carlos, is from Lima, Peru, but has lived most of his life in the Bay Area also. We have two children that keep us busy and bring us a ton of joy. Our son, Carlitos, graduated from Cal State East Bay and coaches both high school girls' soccer and a few local club soccer teams. Our daughter, Maya, is studying for her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health at San Diego State University. Although we are technically "empty-nesters," we aren't letting go just yet - we see our son often for dinners and to cheer for his teams, and we love to visit Maya in San Diego! When not watching or playing soccer, we love the beach, camping, concerts, weekend trips to our cabin in the mountains....anything outdoors with friends and family. :)
