Hello, my name is Priya Gadagkar. I am an Intervention Teacher at Nimitz, and my 'cozy' classroom, while centrally located, sometimes turns out to be pretty hard to find on campus - Room 908.
I grew up in India, but have lived in California for the last twenty five years. In a previous professional life, I worked as a management consultant in the High Tech industry learning invaluable lessons and life skills along the way. But I soon realized that the field of education was where my heart and mind converged. For the last decade, I have been a certified teacher working with kids in grades kinder, first, second, fourth and fifth. Not third... yet, and yes, I wonder too. As an avid reader and a dedicated writer, I encourage my students to value and enjoy, both, reading and writing, and the learning that follows naturally. I believe in balanced literacy - in my classroom, the importance of speaking articulately and listening carefully is also strongly emphasized and practiced.
When I am not in a classroom, I am usually in my car chauffeuring my teenage daughter, or at a corner table in my neighborhood Starbucks working on my novel manuscript, or on my yoga mat dreaming of the Dead Body pose in the midst of struggling with the Half Moon.
I consider myself truly fortunate to be able to do what I love and love what I do and to do more of it in the coming year.
