Degrees and Certifications:
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and attended college at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a specialization in Social Sciences. After many travels to California on vacation, I decided to move out of the Midwest and relocate to the Bay Area in 2007. I began my teaching career at a private school in Mountain View, and honed my instructional skills and whole-child teaching style while working with first and third grade students using project-based learning and the constructivist teaching model. I taught at Murdock-Portal Elementary in CUSD as a K/1 teacher for five years. I loved the collaboration that took place at all levels: student to student, student to teacher, and teacher to teacher. Learning from my peers at Murdock-Portal these past years was truly a great gift. Looking for more independence, I moved to Sedgwick Elementary last year. I am proud to be a certified Leading Edge Digital Educator, Seesaw Ambassador, as well as an Apple Teacher, meaning I have gone through a rigorous training process and completed exams and assignments to show my expertise using digital technology and Apple products. This school year will begin my twelfth year of teaching, and I look forward to working closely with the students and staff of the first grade team here at Sedgwick
My husband, Adam, and I live in San Francisco (yes, you read that right) with our two year old daughter, Mabel, and are expecting a second baby in early November of 2018. When I am not at school, I enjoy hiking, camping, exploring San Francisco, trying out new restaurants, and seeing music concerts with my husband, and spending time watching our daughter learn and grow.
