Degrees and Certifications:
To begin, my full name is Melissa Nicole Tarr. I am a Bay Area native. I was born and raised in Fremont and moved to San Jose when pursuing a bachelor's degree from San Jose State University. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, with a focus in preparation for teaching. SJSU is also the institution where I earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
I have taught within the Cupertino Union School district for six years, this being my seventh year. Previously I taught K/1 for four years in a multi-age classroom at Murdock-Portal Elementary; one of CUSD's alternative public school programs. This will be my third year teaching at Sedgwick.
In my free time, I enjoy playing softball, exercising, dancing, and spending time with my friends, family, and my puppy Cooper! My favorite color is coral. My favorite animal is an elephant. Elephants are known for being an extremely large, but gentle creature. Very much like myself! ;) This year there will be some BIG changes in my personal life. In April of this school year, I will be getting married and my name will change form Miss Tarr to Mrs. Gilbert.
I look forward to the year ahead and being the facilitator to the exploration and discoveries your child will experience in room 14 this school year.
