Welcome and hello! I am excited to begin my 17th year of teaching in the supportive community of Cupertino.  Additionally, I worked for three years at other districts before joining Cupertino. It has been a wonderful experience working with students and parents from diverse backgrounds for the last several years. I am very honored to be working with your child this school year. I am excited about how much the students will grow academically, as well as personally into good-mannered, responsible individuals. I look forward to meeting and working with you so that your student has the best learning experience possible.

This first week the class and I are getting to know one another. We are teambuilding with activities such as Name Game, Student Questionnaire, and class meetings. In the meantime, one of their first homework assignments, making composition book cover, is due on Monday, August 21st. They will also have to read for 20 minutes each night and fill out a reading log. Please look over, sign, and return any paperwork from the first day of school by the end of this week.  Also, students may bring a full water bottle to place in their backpack and a healthy snack for recess. Make sure your student has the proper third grade supplies, which are listed on the back of this newsletter.

The Great American Solar Eclipse is happening on Monday, August 21st! In preparation, we will take part in various Sun and Moon explorations. The eclipse will begin at 9:00 a.m. and peak at 10:15 (the start of recess). For safety, I will show them ways to observe the eclipse without directly looking at the Sun. Please enforce the importance of indirectly observing this special phenomenon. Here's the url for parent resources:

Thank you for entrusting me with the instruction of your student. I value every minute that I spend with your child, and I hope that our school year together will make a very positive impact on his/her life. I know that my teaching must begin with making your child feel at home in our classroom and with helping children come together as a community of learners, who have their own unique learning styles, interests, histories, and hopes for the school year.

Please help me by finding a quiet moment to write to me about your child. What are the things that are important for me to know about him/her? What are your child’s interests? I am most curious in learning how your child thinks, plays, and learns.

Thanks for all your time and support. I hope to see you at Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 23rd at 6:00 pm.
