August 2019

Dear Students and Parents,

Hello and welcome to room 29 or Mr. Thompson's Workshop! My name is Aaron Thompson and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year. This is my thirteenth year in teaching, my twelfth teaching fifth grade. I look forward to all the exciting experiences we will share over the next school year, both school traditions and brand new surprises. My favorite time in school was in Mr. Roberson’s fifth grade class, 39 years ago, and I will do my best to make this a great year for you to look back on when you are my age.

Let me share with you a bit about my background, family, and interests. I grew up in beautiful Monterey, California where I heard the barking of sea lions every morning on my walk down the hill to Bay View Elementary School. I attended San Jose State University where I earned a BA in Social Science with Multiple Subject Teaching Preparation. I have had many interesting (and some not so interesting) jobs in my life but the two I am proudest of are being a soldier in the Army many, many years ago and a teacher here at Collins.  I have lived in Los Gatos for the last nine years and only lived outside the local area for three years. I am married and have four children and a granddaughter. My oldest son spent four years in the Army and is now living nearby. My twin daughters are getting ready for their third year at the University of California, Santa Barbara in September. One of them will spend the next five months working in Disney World as part of the Disney College Program! My youngest son is a junior in high school and spends his time on the wrestling team, running on the track team, playing video games, reading, and hanging out with friends. My wife works at Amazon and has to travel to Seattle often and all over the world sometimes too. When I am not at work I love to read, play video games, watch cartoons, go to movies, draw, and travel.

The summer really flew by but I didn’t really do too much this year. My family was pretty busy though. We continued to foster kittens this summer and currently have eight kittens waiting to be adopted. We take care of them until they can find forever homes. We also have our own three lazy cats and two goofy dogs.

I look forward to meeting all of you soon!
