Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Aaron Thompson
Dear Students and Families,
Hello and welcome to Rm. 29, or as I like to call it, my spare bedroom/home office! My name is Aaron Thompson and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year. This is my fourteenth year in teaching, my thirteenth teaching fifth grade. I look forward to all the exciting experiences we will share over the next school year. This will always be a time we remember. My favorite time in school was in Mr. Roberson’s fifth grade class, 40 years ago, and I will do my best to make this a great year for you to look back on when you are my age...although I will have to compete with COVID-19 and that’s not fair.
Let me share with you a bit about my background, family, and interests. I grew up in beautiful Monterey, California where I heard the barking of sea lions every morning on my walk down the hill to Bay View Elementary School. I attended San Jose State University where I earned a BA in Social Science with Multiple Subject Teaching Preparation. I have had many interesting (and some not so interesting) jobs in my life but the two I am proudest of are being a soldier in the Army many, many years ago and a teacher here at Collins. I have lived in Los Gatos for the last ten years and only lived outside the local area for three years. I am married and have four children and a granddaughter. My oldest son spent four years in the Army and is now living nearby with his daughter. My twin daughters are getting ready for their senior year at the University of California, Santa Barbara in September. They turn 21 on Friday! My youngest son is a senior in high school and spends his time on the school wrestling team, running on the track team, doing homework for AP classes, playing video games, and hanging out with friends. My wife works at Google and now works from home. When I am not at work I love to read, play video games, watch cartoons, go to movies, draw, go fishing, and travel.
I think my summer was probably a lot like yours, boring. I sat around watching too much TV and playing video games. We continued to foster kittens this summer and currently have eight kittens waiting to be adopted. We take care of them until they can find forever homes. We also have our own three lazy cats and now only one goofy dog...we lost our other old-timer a few months ago. Oh! I turned 50 and joined the California State Guard- Air Component where I’ll be supporting the California Air National Guard’s 129th Rescue Wing at Moffett Field, so I guess that’s something.
I look forward to getting to know all of you as this interesting year unfolds!
