Common Core State Standards
California's Common Core State Standards for English and mathematics remodel the state's education system. They replace outdated ways of learning, keep the best of what we have, and help students learn step-by-step the skills they need to receive a world-class education. Children will participate in hands-on learning, which help them develop the critical thinking and analytical skills they need to deal with an ever-changing world.
English Language Arts
The Cupertino Union School District (CUSD) is committed to educating the whole child, and we encourage all students to become active, engaged learners. Teachers provide students with a high quality, standards-based, rigorous and relevant, curriculum that is academically and developmentally challenging in reading and writing. Effective research-based strategies are implemented in classrooms as well as technology tools that prepare students for college and career readiness.

Next Generation Science Standards
On September 4, 2013, the State Board of Education (SBE) adopted the Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten through Grade Twelve (CA NGSS) as required by California Education Code 60605.85. The NGSS Appendices A-M were also adopted to assist teachers in the implementation of the new science standards and to aid in the development of the new science curriculum framework.
The California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS) can be viewed below by grade level Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI): Life Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences, and Physical Sciences or by grade level Topic (e.g., Chemical Reactions, Structure and Function, or Space Systems).
