Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. YingYi Zhong
I am thrilled to join the Meyerholz family! Here is a little bit about myself: I was born and raised in China. I taught English in a high school in China for four years before immigration to the U.S. Like many immigrants of my generation, I continued my education in graduate schools in U.S. I have a master’s degree in Bilingual Bicultural Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a master in Educational Leadership with a focus on technology from San Diego State University. Besides a multiple subject credential and a single subject credential, I have a BCLAD in Mandarin and one in Cantonese. I have taught at public bilingual/immersion schools with different models in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Hayward since 2009. I love teaching because I believe it is one of the most rewarding careers on earth. I also believe Bilingual/Bicultural education is one of the most effective ways to teach for global competence. I strive to provide an educational experience appropriate for my students’ social and emotional development to examine the world critically, recognize different perspectives from others, communicate effectively, and take actions for collective well-being and sustainable development. In my spare time, I love to read, sing, dance, cook, hike, and play with my two children. I also teach classical piano and I recently found a joy in picking up improvisation and Jazz. I look forward to this next exciting chapter of my life. I hope to build life-long relationships with the children, the parents and the staff of the school community of Meyerholz!
