Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Etay Chatow (or Mr. Chatow) and I am excited to be a new member of the CMS bear pride community!
I am currently teaching ELA and Social studies to 7th grade, which used to be my own favorite topics in middle school! This is another reason I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year.
I was born in Israel and moved with my family to CA as a teenager. I completed my high school years in Palo Alto, where my parents still live today. I graduated with a B.A from UC Davis and with Masters/ teaching credential from San Jose State University. I since got married to Aislyn, had a three year old son and moved to San Jose.
This is my third year teaching at the Cupertino Union School District. Prior to teaching at CMS, I was teaching at Miller Middle School, and before that, as a 4th grade teacher at Sedgwick Elementary school. I use the whole child teaching approach and put emphasis on students working in groups, engage in problem solving skills and self advocating for themselves as part of being better learners and citizens of our fast changing world. Even though, this is going to be an unusual school year, I am looking forward working on those skills and teaching your children this year.
In my free time, I like to spend time with my family, read, learning languages (I am a fluent speaker in English and Hebrew and can speak elementary Spanish and Arabic), hiking and gardening. I am looking forward getting to know you and your kids as the year goes on.
