Modernization at Nimitz - Abatement Procedures

Pardon our mess, we’re under construction:

As many of you are aware, our modernization project will begin during the Mid-Year Recess. Classes in rooms 8, 9, 10, and 11 will be moving into the brown portable classrooms that were placed on our blacktop. After Spring Recess, classes in rooms 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 will move into the portables.

Please be aware that these portable classrooms are temporary spaces, and therefore will not be set-up as completely and beautifully as the classroom would be if modernization was not taking place. Be assured that the instruction provided by the teachers will continue to be at the high level you’re used to at Nimitz.

Attached to this email is a letter from the district detailing the abatement procedures that will be in place during the modernization process. During the planning for modernization, an environmental consultant created a plan for abatement. An abatement contractor has been hired to perform the work in accordance with the plan.  Monitoring will occur the entire time abatement is happening. Reports will be provided showing that the air is clean and asbestos/lead free prior to removal of the containment areas. Typically certain floor tiles, carpet glue and drywall mud in certain areas have asbestos.

Please view the District's Letter to the Community Regarding Abatement Procedures.
