Distance Learning Attendance Information

Dear Hyde Families,

We wanted to make sure you were aware of our attendance policies during Distance Learning.  This is to ensure you have all the information you might need as the year progresses.

The CA State policy requires every public school to take attendance during distance learning just like we take attendance during the regular school year.  This means that if your student does not attend a google meet it is virtually the same as if they did not attend an in-person class.  A student will be marked as truant if a parent or guardian does not provide a verifiable excuse from class.

Absences must be reported to the school office by a parent or guardian. You can report an absence using the following methods:

  • Emailing the absence reporting account at hyde_absence@cusdk8.org.
  • Leaving a voicemail on our Absence Reporting Line at (408) 252-6290, option 6

You will need to provide the following information using either method:

  • Your student's first and last name, with correct spelling
  • Your student's grade level
  • The length of the absence (for example, one period or a full day)
  • The reason for the absence
  • Your name and relationship to the student
  • A phone number where the school can reach you.

For absences due to a medical, dental, court-ordered or immigration appointment, or for a death in the family, documentation is required to excuse the absence. You may attach the documentation to an email or fax it to my attention at (408) 255-3288.

For absences due to illness lasting over three (3) school days, a note from the student’s doctor is required to excuse the absence.

Absences due to technical issues on the home end will be marked as delays and must be reported as soon as possible. We understand that some students may still have technical issues logging in.  Please save/bookmark the CUSD Tech Help website.  There is a live chat feature during the course of the school day in which students and parents can receive immediate help in troubleshooting technical issues.

Absences for religious observations and/or instruction must be reported in writing a full school day in advance to be considered excused.

Thank you so much as we work together to ensure your child is getting the most out of their education.  If you have any questions, please contact me at
