Please download and print out your student’s schedule at that time. If you are unable to print out your own schedule, please come to the front office from 1-3 on Wednesday, August 14th where the secretaries will print it out for you. Your student can also come in before school on Thursday, August 15th to pick up a copy. Please do not call the office to ask for your schedule.  Schedules can only be released to the student, or his or her parent – friends may not pick up schedules for friends.

PURCHASING PHYSICAL FITNESS (PF) CLOTHES
Beginning the second week of school, every student must change clothes for Physical Fitness (PF) every school day, into a Lawson t-shirt and shorts. You may purchase these items ($10/shirt and $10/shorts) in the fitness room at the following times this week:

                  FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 2019
                                    7:30 - 9:00 a.m.

Physical Fitness clothes are also for sale year-round by every PF teacher. If you are unable to purchase uniforms before school starts, your child may purchase them during their PF class when the school year starts.

MEDICATION ON CAMPUS
If your child needs to take medication while on the Lawson campus, we are required by state law to have documentation signed by both the parent and the child’s doctor. This includes both prescription and over-the- counter medication. Click here to visit the district website for the necessary paperwork. There’s still time to visit the doctor before school starts! Bring all medication and forms into the front office as soon as possible.

TDAP VACCINATION REQUIRED BY ALL 7th & 8th GRADERS
Students entering 7th grade are required by state health law to have received a Tdap vaccination sometime after their 7th birthday. This booster shot will protect your child and our community against whooping cough. There are still over 20 incoming 7th graders who have not yet provided proof of this vaccination to the Lawson office. These students will be excluded from attending class until this proof is received in the Lawson office.

FIRST DAY PACKETS
Your student will bring home a packet on the first day of school full of paperwork with lots of important information about the school year. We ask for your support in diligently completing all the forms and reading through all the info during the first 10 days of school. Forms will be due back to school no later than Friday, August 23, 2019.

PARENT ORGANIZATIONS

Lawson is very fortunate to have 3 active volunteer parent organizations partnering with our school. You will find lots of information in the First Day Packet about each group. Each group has a brief message below about activities coming up at the start of the school year. We encourage every family to get involved with at least one of these organizations.

 LAWSON PTA

The Lawson PTA is excited to welcome new and returning parents to the 2019-2020 school year. We hope you all had a great summer! In preparation for the first day of school, we are in need of volunteers to help in various areas for the next couple of weeks: assembling first day packets, PF uniform sales, picture day help.  We have included a link below requesting your help for the school in the month of August. Please find time to come in! We also need drink donations for the staff luncheon on Monday, August 13th. Please drop off soda or water in the front office any time before 3 pm on Friday, August 9th. This is a fantastic way to support our school and to meet other wonderful Lawson families.

LAWSON SPORTS BOOSTERS

Lawson is full of athletic opportunity!

www.valleyal.org is the website where you will find sign-up info for competitive, team, district-run, after school sports. There are 5 "seasons" for competitive athletics against other local middle schools. Some sports require try-outs and it is very important that your child listens to and/or reads the daily announcements so they don’t miss out.

Season 1 competitive district-run after-school sports include:

                  -  Boys Volleyball (try outs required)

                  -  Girls Softball (try outs required)

                  -  Cross Country (no cut sport- everyone can participate)

We are in need of a GIRLS SOFTBALL COACH and a BOYS VOLLEYBALL COACH!! Season 1 starts on August 26th and ends on October 10th (if we make it all the way through to the final play-offs.) Practice/games take place Monday through Thursday from 3:15 – 5:00 p.m. Softball practice is held at Collins Elementary. Each position pays a $1200 stipend and the PTA will allow volunteer hours that will give you preferential seating at graduation for your own child. Please contact one of our Athletic Directors, Todd Butler at butler_todd@cusdk8.org or Jeff Ottey at ottey_jeff@cusdk8.org if you are interested in either of these important roles.

Lawson Sports Boosters is a parent non-profit group at Lawson that uses separate parent donations to fund intramural sports, athletic supplies, the sports award night, and equipment not covered by the school. Intramurals are open to everyone!  Sign ups are required.

Please follow us on Facebook @LawsonSportsBoosters for regular updates.

Watch for our first day flyer for more detailed information.  We are looking for several volunteers if you’d like to join our amazing team! If you have 4-5 hours per month and want to make a huge difference in your child’s school, please consider coming on board.

MUSIC@LAWSON

More than half of the Lawson student body participates in one of our music programs, either band, orchestra or choir. Our hardworking students learn and grow in their musical ability with the support of Music@Lawson. In the past this dedicated parent group has purchased music and instruments, helped pay for supplemental instructors, supported our concerts, organized our participation in CMEA events and field trips, including our annual Disneyland visit for our advanced band and chamber orchestra. We would love to have more parents involved! You do not need to be on the board to attend our monthly meetings. Your involvement will help the program continue to improve!

We have 2 new music teachers at Lawson this year, Asa Stern and Natalie Pangilian. Look for their introduction in your first day packet, along with information about instrument interviews for beginning band and orchestra students, and much needed donations to our program.

Finally, whether you have a music student or not, we invite all Lawson families to our concerts in October, December, March and May. We know you will enjoy the efforts of these hardworking musicians, as well as admire the progress made through the school year.
